About the Journal

Balkan Medical Journal is a Q1 general medicine journal published by Trakya University, Edirne, Türkiye. Since its founding in 1979, the journal has been committed to advancing medical knowledge and practice across all areas of medicine.

The journal publishes peer-reviewed research across medical disciplines, emphasizing adherence to the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of scholarly work in medical journals. We welcome original articles, brief reports, invited review articles, consensus reports, clinical images, letters to the editor, scientific letters, editorial comments, and health policy articles. The journal does not accept case report type manuscripts.

Balkan Medical Journal operates under a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring that all published work meets the highest standards of scientific quality and ethical conduct. Each submission undergoes evaluation by expert reviewers in the relevant field before an editorial decision is reached.

As a diamond open access journal, Balkan Medical Journal charges no submission fees, no article processing charges (APCs), and no subscription fees. Balkan Medical Journal was founded in 1979 at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in Edirne, Türkiye. Originally established as a regional medical journal to serve the academic community of the Balkans, it began with the mission of providing a platform for medical researchers and clinicians in the region to share their findings.

Over the past 40+ years, the journal has undergone a remarkable transformation. Through unwavering dedication to editorial quality, scientific rigor, and ethical publishing practices, Balkan Medical Journal has evolved from a regional publication into an internationally recognized Q1 journal indexed in the most prestigious databases worldwide.

Key milestones in the journal's history include its indexing in PubMed/MEDLINE, acceptance into the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) in the Web of Science, and achieving a Q1 quartile ranking.
